With the abundance of color we’ve seen lately, both on the racks & on the runway, it is a bit refreshing to get blasted with such a clean pop of black & white. From head to toe stark snow is contrasted with velvety onyx in a diverse mixture of graphic prints, geometric shapes and vivid lines. Whether inspired by mod moments like Alice + Olivia’s two-faced Parisian number or Narciso’s pinwheel printed shift, bohemian & tribal mixes like Naeem Khan’s stripey cut out caftan or graphic in it’s truest form like Ohne Titel’s optical illusion-trick playing jacket, it is no doubt that designers are merging opposite sides of the spectrum in the most dramatic of fashions this season.
Awards season has come and gone and everyone from dictators to girls with dragon tattoos strutted the red carpet and Ryan Seacrest became the butt of Sacha Baron Cohen’s joke (which I thought was hilarious). The Red Carpet was filled with gorgeous gowns and my favorite trends bringing back ultra chic looks, waves of white and the always alluring one-shoulder dresses. A few looks took my breathe away as I could only scream in a fashionable frenzy while others left more to be desired. Here is a rundown of the red carpet’s most talked about looks!
As if everything he did wasn’t already the coolest, one of our all time of-the-moment fashion gods, Mr. Alexander Wang, has just introduced The Objects Collection “a curation of personal items that fit in to our everyday lives.” Wang obviously realized how much cooler our wardrobes were than our tabletops and thought it only appropriate that he design the perfect lifestyle pieces as well & we are definitely not complaining. From Black Mock Croc Lighter Sleeves ($29) and Blackened Brass-Edged Leather Notebooks ($59) to spruce up the goods in our AW bags to Charcoal Glass Ashtrays ($95) and Black on Black Playing Cards complete with Suede Lined Mock Croc Box ($55) to adorn our coffee tables, Alexander has created the best blend of non-traditional must-haves, a perfect way to blow the few bucks we have left after picking up his RTW pieces. He even built a Leather-Covered Bike Lock…yup, epitome of cool. We love you Wang.
